This January, we’re hosting a walk to explore the Muslim legacy of the Kelawai area. Rather than just "looking at the kampung," our narrative for this walk is about learning the history of traditional Malay leadership and the Qaryah system.
Our guide, Fairus Saad, will be sharing insights into how these social structures and the role of the Penghulu have held these neighborhoods together for generations. It’s a rare chance to understand the social fabric of Penang from the inside out.
We’re keeping the group size strictly limited to ensure the walk remains low-key and respectful for the people currently living in the area. If you’re a local history buff or interested in Penang's social heritage, we’d love to have you join us.

Important Information for Attendees:
Mosquito Repellent: Highly recommended. The cemetery has many trees and is prone to mosquitoes.
Footwear: Please wear comfortable covered shoes. The ground is uneven and can be muddy.
Weather: The tour continues in light rain (please bring an umbrella/poncho).
